Match-3 Style Puzzle Game - Studio Film Mobile Companion App
SGN (, the premier mobile games developer led by MySpace Founder & SGN CEO Chris DeWolfe, has secured one of the first major studio deals to produce a mobile companion game for the upcoming Fox film “The Book of Life.” The mobile game will be released in October 2014 on iOS, and is called “Book of Life: Sugar Smash.” Creating a new income stream, Fox will share in the revenue from in-app purchases made in the game.

Produced by Guillermo Del Toro and directed by Jorge Guitierrez, the film also features a star-studded cast of voice actors including Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, Ice Cube, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, and Christina Applegate. Voices of actors featured in the film are also included in the game.

Mobile games have become an integral component of the studio marketing mechanism for feature film launches, but effectively marrying a film’s narrative to its companion app presents a major challenge for developers and designers. Quality execution for these titles is essential to their success. Additionally, Hollywood has finally recognized that mobile games are a huge ancillary revenue stream, with turnkey revenue opportunities for long after a film’s theater release cycle has ended.
