Android Newsreader product

We launched the Guardian Anywhere for Android devices last year. It puts the whole newspaper on your mobile, by waking up in the middle of the night, grabbing news stories, articles and photos, and saving them onto your phone when you're on your home wi-fi and plugged in to charge.

This means that when you travel to work, you can fall out of coverage (on the train, the bus or the tube) and still get an amazingly snappy reading experience. We also let you build your own newspaper by customising feeds, and we offer personalised content once we've learned a bit more about your reading habits.

The reader product consumes RSS feeds; it's ready to plug into any publisher.

So far the app has had more than 22,000 downloads and a retained audience of 8000 users, with no promotion. We've distributed nearly half a million copies of the Guardian newspaper to date. Happy customers include Clay Shirky, Dan Gillmor and Ben Goldacre. It's a proven, popular product and we want to offer it to more publishers.
