Nearby Norway is the first in a line of Nearby products; map applications offering highly dynamic, local information in high performance -free- maps. Coverage for Europe, the US and finally the whole world is coming.
The current content of Nearby Norway includes public transport, city bikes, car charging stations, weather forecasts and recycling information.
Nearby is built on the inMAP mapping engine and LBS platform. Where some mobile platforms such as Android and iOS offer built-in map views such as MapKit, other platforms have no map capabilities.
The Faster Imaging inMAP technology is based on transferring raw vector data rather than already rasterized map images. This reduces the amount of transferred data by more than 90% compared to regular solutions such as the aforementionned MapKit. Additionally user interaction with the likes of map tilting, rotation and 3D is easily achievable.
To ensure that maps are up to date and free, Nearby runs on map data from OpenStreetMap.
