thetrainline.com mobile ticketing application

Meet the Artist:

Mark Fowler

Thetrainline.com mobile ticketing application, developed by Masabi, allows commuters to simply and securely purchase and display tickets for transport on mass-market handsets and smartphones.

While it has been possible to purchase tickets online for some time, most tickets are still bought at the station where queuing can cause delays, particularly at peak times. Launched late 2010, thetrainline.com application allows mobile users to search for and purchase tickets on their handset using a credit or debit card. The application currently supports ticket purchase with customers needing to pick-up tickets at the station. As of next year, however, some routes will also support ticket display of both human-readable tickets and secure 2D barcodes on the phone’s screen, which can be scanned at ticket gates or by inspectors. The system uses Masabi’s award-winning, US government certified, EncryptME security to protect all transactions, giving added peace of mind to the passenger, transport operators and ticket retailers.
