Niiiws, a national news aggregator for Ipad, wins AppCircus in Lisbon is the winner of AppCircus in Lisbon. Niiiws brings together national news reports based on articles being shared and engaged with the most on social networks. Users can customize the app to fit their favorite sections and read news that are relevant to them.
Niiiws is new way for iPad owners to access national newspapers. The app allows a systematic use. This is the aspect that the jury of AppCircus in Lisbon (Nicolau Mesquita from Nokia, Nuno Inácio from Vodafone, Oscar Fernández from Mobile Marketing Association, Leonel Filipe Duarte from YDreams and Marco Leal from iMobileMagic) most valued most about Niiiws.
The team behind Niiiws is muchBeta, a startup that creates software for big corporations. As news readers themselves, they found the need for such an app in the importance of local news beyond the global aggregators. Niiiws is currently present in Portugal, in the UK and in Spain (where it has been present for only two weeks), and the company plans to expand to France, Ireland, Brasil, the United States, Germany and Italy. Furthermore, the app will soon be developed for iPhone.
As winners of the AppCircus in Lisbon contest, the Niiiws team were awarded a Nokia Lumia 800 by Vodafone and they could be nominated for the Mobile Premier Awards, to be held in Barcelona during the Mobile World Congress 2013
The best Windows Phone app of AppCircus in Lisbon was Walkar, an app to show interesting spots around you. As the best Windows Phone, Walkar was awarded a Nokia Lumia 800 by Nokia.
The AppCircus Lisboa event started with two free training workshops delivered by Nokia and Mobile Marketing Association. Nokia offered a workshop on how to create a Windows Phone app in one hour, by Cristóvão Morgado.
