On February 7-8, 2012, the BlackBerry DevCon® in Amsterdam will be hosting an AppCircus Spotlight on BlackBerry apps.

The event format will be the same as any AppCircus, with the spotlight of the stage setup for BlackBerry apps only. The winner at the event will be chosen by a jury comprising of RIM -Research In Motion®- specialists and Industry experts, following a 3 minute ‘pitch’ and 2 minute Question and Answer session on stage at BlackBerry DevCon Europe®.

The challenge is open to all developers. The contestants should profile their BlackBerry application on appcircus.com and include a link to download. The application must be on BlackBerry App World™.

Prizes: 

The finalists (to be announced at the end of January) will get a free BlackBerry smartphone and a complimentary pass to BlackBerry DevCon Europe; the winner will be chosen by our jury of industry specialists and BlackBerry experts on the night of the 7th February and receive an application marketing package from RIM -Research In Motion®-, which includes:

·         Two weeks of promotion within BlackBerry App World™
·         Consultation with a leading application marketing company on ways to market your app using social, email and other marketing tactics
 
All delegates (regardless of whether they enter AppCircus or not) will receive a BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet!

The BlackBerry DevCon in Amsterdam will be the place for the BlackBerry developer community in Europe to come together to understand how to work with the latest innovations and breakthroughs for the BlackBerry® platform such as BlackBerry® 7, the new BBM™ Social Platform, BlackBerry® Tablet OS, Adobe® AIR®, Adobe® Flash®, BlackBerry® WebWorks™, and more. 

Speakers include Emeric Florence, Joe Lambert, Laurent Hasson, Marius Gundersen, Bruce Lawson from Opera, Chris Heilmann from Mozilla, Andrew Betts from Assanka and the web legend, Grant Skinner.

 

Terms and conditions

·       How to participate: 

The challenge is open to all developers. The contestants should profile their BlackBerry application on appcircus.com and include a link to download. The application must be on BlackBerry App World™.

·       There is no charge to submit applications to BlackBerry App World, however, the application must be downloadable and have passed the minimum ‘smoke-tests’ to determine technical viability.

·       The shortlist of ten (10) finalists will be determined and published on the AppCircus website on Jan 23rd 2012 and the finalists will be invited to pitch their app to a jury including RIM -Research In Motion®- app and developer specialists as well as external experts at BlackBerry DevCon Europe® 2012, taking place in Amsterdam on the 7-8th February 2012.

 ·       The finalists will receive a free pass to attend BlackBerry DevCon Europe® but will need to arrange and pay for the necessary travel and accommodation.

·       Judging

The entries will be shortlisted by RIM -Research In Motion®- experts and be judged on the following criteria:

·       Commercial potential: how many downloads has it already achieved, is there an application of this kind already on BlackBerry App World; what is the business model for the app – is it distributed through a wireless operator?

·       BlackBerry Technology: The judges are particularly interested in seeing solutions that make use of the latest BlackBerry technology, namely BlackBerry 7 OS (NFC, magnetometer, OpenGL), BlackBerry tablet OS and BBM Social Platform, as well as Super App characteristics. What differentiates this as a BlackBerry app?

The winner at the event will be chosen by a jury comprising of RIM specialists and Industry experts, following a 3 minute ‘pitch’ and 2 minute Question and Answer session on stage at BlackBerry DevCon Europe®.

·       Start date/Closing date: The challenge opens on Wednesday 13th December 2011 and will close for entries on Monday 16th January 2012 at 6pm Central European Time.

·       Prizes: 

The finalists (to be announced at the end of January) will get a free BlackBerry smartphone and a complimentary pass to BlackBerry DevCon Europe®; the winner will be chosen by our jury of industry specialists and BlackBerry experts on the night of the 7th February and receive an application marketing package from RIM -Research In Motion®-, which includes:

Post –event promotion

By entering this challenge, the entrants agree to RIM -Research In Motion®- using footage of the ‘pitch’ event in subsequent promotional activities. The footage will appear on Youtube and the applications entrants have submitted to the challenge will be promoted on BlackBerry App World™.
